About Aviation & Aerospace Technologies
The Aviation and Aerospace Technologies program gives you an opportunity to learn the skills needed for manufacturing and maintenance of aircrafts. In Aerospace, you will gain the skills you need to read and understand documents as well as learn to perform work with precision and accuracy.
Students in Aerospace will develop the following skills:
– aviation math and physics
– reading blueprints and technical drawings
– sheet metal fabrication and repair
Who Should Enroll?
Aviation and Aerospace Technologies is looking for students who enjoy taking things apart and learning how they work, using real-world math and building projects. Students in this vocation are active participants in their learning, are driven to excel, and are willing to take initiative.
Employment Opportunities
Students who successfully complete the Aviation and Aerospace Technology program are qualified to work with companies like Boeing and Magellan Aerospace. Potential careers include gas turbine technologist, aircraft maintenance engineer, aviation machinist, non-destructive tester, and composite fabrication. Many students continue on to the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer path at Red River College.
Additional Information
At the heart of the Aviation and Aerospace Technologies program is a close-knit, collaborative team environment. Students support one another while learning and completing a variety of projects. Assisting one another and contributing to the success of the whole class is an integral part of the Aerospace program.
Course Listing
Grade 9 (.5 Credit) ATHV1G
Exploration of Aviation and Aerospace Technologies is intended for students wishing to sample a future in Aviation and Aerospace. Curriculum content focuses on an exploration of the maintenance and manufacturing of aircraft. Emphasis will be placed on project-based learning activities.
Grade 10 (1 Credit) AV543V1S
This course is intended for students wishing to investigate Aviation and Aerospace Technologies. Curriculum content focuses on the maintenance and manufacturing of aircraft. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills through hands-on, project based activities.
Grade 11 (4 Credits) AV000V30
This course is intended for students considering specialization in the Aviation and Aerospace Technologies program. Curriculum content focuses on fabrication of metallic and non-metallic structures and reciprocating engines.
Grade 12 (4 Credits) AV000V40
This course is intended for students entering the transition phase of the Aviation and Aerospace Technologies program. Curriculum content includes construction and repair of metallic and non-metallic structures, non-destructive testing (NDT), aircraft systems and propulsion, TOWES and WHMIS certification, Human Factors training and ethical and legal requirements in industry.
Aerospace Manufacturing and Maintenance Orientation Program (AMMOP)
Target Audience:
Adults who want to transition to employment and post-secondary opportunities in the Manitoba Aerospace Industry
Length of Program:
AMMOP is a 10 month program in which students learn the skills that will lead to a career in the Aerospace Industry. Students attend from 7:45AM to 2:35PM for half a week, with perfect attendance being the expectation.
Applicant Requirements:
Students must have completed their grade 12 and be competent in Math, Science and English. An entrance test will be completed in May with applicants subject to reference checks and an interview.
